Tractors most targeted commodity in December 14-20 cargo theft report

Eleven incidents were recorded in the December 14-20 cargo theft report, three less than the prior week. Four additional incidents from 12/6-12/13 were received this week by CargoNet, all of the events were categorized as thefts.

California and Florida tied for the week’s top cargo theft hot spot with three reported incidents each.  In half of the events, a tractor was the target of theft.  The other commodities stolen were electronics.  Locations of the incidents included a secured yard, a warehouse, and the side of the road.

Tractors were the week’s hottest commodity, accounting for 40% of all thefts.  Food and beverage, electronics, and pharmaceutical and medical were also highly targeted with two reported incidents each. The pharmaceutical and medical thefts occurred in Maryland and Ohio.

Carrier/terminal lots and warehouses were the most commonly targeted locations, while other thefts occurred at secured yards and truck stops, in parking lots, and on the side of the road.
