Texas Targeted Again in December 7-14 Cargo Theft Reporting Summary
Fourteen incidents were recorded in the December 7-14 cargo theft report, two more than the prior week. Six additional incidents from 11/30-12/6 were received this week by CargoNet, all of the events were categorized as thefts.
Texas was once again the week’s cargo theft hot spot with four reported incidents. The commodities stolen were primarily commercial, industrial, and building materials. Locations of the incidents included a secured yard, parking lot, and warehouse.
Other highly targeted states were Washington and California. All of the reported incidents included the theft of a tractor and/or trailer.
Food and beverage was the week’s hottest commodity, accounting for 35% of all goods stolen. Commercial/industrial items and apparel trailed distantly after.
Fifty percent of the week’s thefts occurred in parking lots, while truck stops and warehouses were also popular targets.
